5 yuzu recipes that make the most of the tangy citrus fruit

Yuzu is an East Asian citrus fruit commonly described as a fusion between lemons and oranges. Yuzu’s robust and sour taste makes its juice and zest perfect for adding flavor to dishes, so it’s no wonder that the juicy fruit is gaining popularity throughout TikTok’s culinary world. From pound cake to margaritas, yuzu lends its tarty taste to various recipes. If you’re looking for ways to put the tangy citrus to use, here are five delicious yuzu recipes that pack a punch.

Bitcoin vs. gold: Which is the better inflation hedge?

1. Yuzu pound cake

Yuzu may be sour, but that doesn’t mean it can’t work well with desserts, as demonstrated by this yuzu pound cake. Start by beating softened butter until smooth. Then add sugar, followed by whisked eggs and egg yolk. Next, fold in sifted cake flour, almond flour and baking powder. Then mix in finely chopped yuzu peels and yuzu juice. Pour the batter into a loaf pan lined with parchment paper, and bake at 320 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 45 minutes. Right after baking, brush yuzu syrup on the cake and let cool. Finally, ice the cake with a yuzu glaze before serving.

2. Yuzu pie bars

Enjoy all the best that pie has to offer in the form of a dessert bar you can grab and take with you. First, combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter and salt. Then transfer to a baking dish lined with parchment paper. Next, firmly press the crust down into the baking dish. Then pop it in the oven for approximately 10 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then pour a mixture of yuzu juice, sweetened condensed milk and egg yolks over the crust, and spread evenly. Bake for another 15 minutes before topping it off with a layer of homemade whipped cream. Finally, slice, serve and enjoy!

3. Yuzu-glazed salmon

Yuzu serves as the perfect complement to savory dishes like this salmon recipe. Begin by seasoning raw salmon with pepper. Next, spread on a yuzu glaze made from miso, yuzu extract, soy sauce and maple syrup. Place the salmon on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 minutes. After baking, plate the salmon and sprinkle on some sesame seeds before serving.

4. Spicy yuzu margarita

Put a whole new twist on your traditional margarita with this yuzu variety. First, muddle jalapeños in a tumbler. Next, add tequila, lemon juice, yuzu juice and triple sec. Then add ice and shake. Finally, pour the margarita into a glass rimmed with chili powder and enjoy!

5. Yuzu-glazed chicken wings

This mouthwatering recipe takes chicken wings to a whole new level. Start by adding garlic and boiling water to a blender. Once smooth, pour the mixture into a pot. Then add sugar, mirin (similar to sake), red chili paste, yuzu koshō (a blend of chili and yuzu peels) and a plant-based umami sauce. Bring the mixture to a simmer and stir well before reducing on low heat for one to three hours, or until the sauce thickens. Marinate fried chicken wings with the glaze. Then sprinkle on some sesame seeds before serving with lime wedges.
