4-star WR Quay Davis no longer part of Kansas' 2021 class after domestic violence accusation

Quay Davis will not be a member of Kansas' football team.

Kansas said Friday that it would not have Davis as a part of its 2021 class after an accusation of domestic violence became public on social media earlier in the week. Kansas said Thursday that it was gathering information about the accusation and made the decision on Friday to revoke his offer.

“Yesterday, after the allegations referencing a football recruit were brought to our attention, we immediately contacted individuals with knowledge on the matter to try and learn more about what happened," Kansas said in a statement. "Based on the information we were able to gather KU football has terminated the recruitment of this individual and communicated to him that he will no longer be recruited to play football at the University of Kansas. While we do not know the full details of what occurred in this instance, we were able to learn enough information and decide that it is in the best interest of Kansas Football that we separate from this individual. We condemn violence of any kind against women."

The accusation against Davis was made public on Wednesday. The post — which you can view here — included pictures of a young woman's left eye swollen shut. Davis was identified in the post.

Davis was KU's top recruit

Davis was the only four-star recruit in Kansas' 2021 class. The Dallas native was ranked as the No. 36 prospect in the class of 2021 and signed with the Jayhawks in February after committing in January.

"I can be a star, I can change it around and I can be a legend," Davis told Rivals after he committed to Kansas. "They told me, 'Quay, you can be a legend,' and I feel comfortable with somebody like Coach Emmett [Jones], who coached at my school and I feel comfortable with. He's a great coach. He's gonna speak on my imperfections. He's not gonna tell me do this and do that. He's gonna give straight facts, the real, and I like to be told the real."

Jones is currently Kansas' interim coach after the school parted ways with Les Miles earlier this month. Miles' separation from Kansas came after accusations of inappropriate conduct with female students in his time at LSU became public.

The allegations also led to the departure of Kansas athletic director Jeff Long. He hired Miles and stepped down following Miles' firing.
