140 people made $1.4 million each using this Melbourne-made website
Melbourne-born startup Envato has revealed hundreds of its users have made more than $1 million through its digital marketplace.
Envato allows creative professionals to post assets like stock photos, stock music, website templates, graphics, videos and 3D models for sale and licensing.
The total royalty fees paid to the authors has topped $1 billion this week, the company announced, with 140 people have each made at least $1.4 million in sales.
Another 2,200 authors have made $100,000 each in gross sales.
The highest-selling WordPress theme of all-time, Avada, has earned its authors more than $35 million on Envato.
"We’re pleased to be known as a company that shares with our community a higher proportion of all revenue, especially when compared against some of our biggest competitors," said Envato chief operating officer Ben Chan.
"We had a record year in 2018 when it came to delivering on our promise of increased author earnings, with more than US$134 million (AU$190 million) paid out to our contributors."
Envato Elements, the startup's all-you-can-eat subscription service now has more than a million digital assets on sale, to cater for a population of 150,000 subscribers.

The latest milestone now has the company talking about reaching the US$1 billion (AU$1.4 billion) threshold by 2021.
Privately owned Envato was founded in 2006 as FlashDen by Collis, Cyan and Vahid Ta’eed.
The company has more than 500 employees, still based mostly in Melbourne.
