The 10 most important things in the world right now

Hello! Here’s what’s happening on Monday.

1. Senate Democrats are looking into a new allegation of sexual misconduct by Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court. Deborah Ramirez, a former Yale classmate of Kavanaugh's, told The New Yorker that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a dorm-room party.

2. Tiger Woods won his first tournament since 2013 at the TOUR Championship. The win is the culmination of an impressive comeback season for Woods, who looks to be a threat at the majors again in 2019.

3. Rising geopolitical tensions and the escalating trade war between the US and China are putting management teams off big deals. JPMorgan says: "We’re already seeing signs that geopolitical risks, including trade tensions, are dimming the prospects for large-scale M&A going into next year."

4. A Business Insider investigation of Instagram's IGTV showed how rampant brand safety issues remain in digital video. Media execs say IGTV isn't as sophisticated as YouTube or Facebook when it comes to surfacing content but are still bullish on the platform for reaching a lucrative audience.

5. Uber and former competitor Grab have been fined by Singapore's competition watchdog. Uber sold its Southeast Asian business in March in exchange for 27.5% of Grab.

6. Michelle Guthrie, the head of Australia's national public broadcaster, the ABC, has been sacked. The now former managing director says she is devastated and is now considering legal action.

7. The first pictures from the rovers Japan just landed on an asteroid. Hayabusa2 began its journey on December 3, 2014, and had to travel 3.2 billion kilometres to make the rendezvous.

8. Some companies, and nations, will be left behind in the AI age. The World Economic Forum’s “Annual Meeting of the New Champions” was held last week in Tianjin, China, bringing together scientists, entrepreneurs, and global industry executives.

9. The 30 best countries for job satisfaction, making new friends, and raising a family. The ranking is based on interviews with more than 18,000 expats living in 68 countries around the world.

10. Couples are going to therapy before getting married to get help dealing with their in-laws. According to relationship coach and consultant Peter Pearson, it’s best to address these problems sooner than later, because they won’t go away on their own.
