#Jetstar fail takes off as airline website crashes on $88 offer

Airline price wars usually mean a win-win for passengers but Jetstar customers were in for a rude shock yesterday.

The airline announced an offer of $88 fares to Bali in response to Air Asia’s $99 “introductory” fares on flights from Melbourne to Bali.

However, when would-be travellers tried to book the flights, Jetstar’s phones and computer systems could not handle the traffic and went into meltdown.

Angry customers then vented their frustration on social media, some claiming they tried for as long as six-hours to make a booking but could not get through.

One user even posted screenshots of the website's error message.

Jetstar later apologised for the glitch.

Among the other announcements yesterday, Jetstar said yesterday that effective November 25, it was reducing the baggage allowance for carry on, from 10kg to 7kg.

Economy class passengers can still carry two pieces of luggage but their combined weight must be 7kg or less.
