Upcoming iPhone to feature new metal, color: Report

Upcoming iPhone to feature new metal, color: Report

That Siri-hyped Apple event planned for a week from Wednesday may have just gotten a lot less surprising for Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) aficionados.

The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus models will be the first to sport the super-strong 7000 series aluminum first featured in the Apple Watch Sport, according to a report from 9to5Mac.

Both phones will retain the design of the current models, but will include several new features, according 9to5Mac, citing sources. The smartphones will include Force Touch-based displays for short-cutting popular iOS features, 12 megapixel rear cameras that can record 4K video, upgraded front cameras, faster A9 processors, 2GB of RAM, animated wallpapers, and a new rose gold color option.

Still, 9to5Mac says the phones are expected to only start with 16-gigabytes of storage.

The new iPhones are expected to go on sale in retail stores on September 18th, according to the site.

Additionally, new Apple Watch Sport band colors are expected to launch next week, according to 9to5Mac.

Sources also revealed details surrounding the company's fourth-generation Apple TV which will reportedly feature a new touch-based, color-matching remote and a much faster processor than the current model, though it will lack support for 4K video streaming, according to a separate report from the same website.

The newer, more gaming supportive Apple TV is expected to be more than twice as expensive as the last model though Apple is said to be torn between two price strategies that could result in a $149 8-gigabyte base model alongside a $199 16-gigabyte model, according to the report.
