Transurban boosts first half profit by 25%

Toll road operator Transurban's first half profit has grown by 25 per cent as toll revenues and traffic numbers increased.

Transurban said its net profit for the six months to December 31 was $93.2 million, up from $74.7 million in the previous corresponding period.

Net profit from its ordinary activities was $96.6 million in the six months to December, up 27 per cent from $76 million in the previous corresponding period.

Proportional toll revenue on the first half of the financial year was $473.8 million, up six per cent on the same period in the previous year.

Transurban declared an interim distribution of 14.5 cents, with 3.5 cents of that fully franked.

Chief executive Chris Lynch said a strong second half of the financial year would deliver the free cash necessary to deliver the company's guidance of a distribution of at least 29 cents for the full year.
