Strong US jobs data pushes $A higher

The Australian dollar has risen to a six-month high on optimistic jobs data from the US, and is above the 107 mark.

At 0630 AEDT on Monday, the local unit was trading at 107.69 US cents - its highest point since early August and up from 106.88 cents on Friday afternoon.

On Friday, non-farm payrolls data showed an increase of 243,000 jobs in the US during January.

The figure far outstripped forecasts, providing a further indication that the country's economy is recovering.

The market is also optimistic that a resolution to Greece's debt crisis could soon be reached.
