Star City subject of fresh probe

The Casino Liquor and Gaming Authority has announced a new investigation into the management of Sydney's Star Casino.

The formal inquiry has been triggered by information received since the sudden removal of managing director Sid Vaikunta a fortnight ago.

Casino operator Echo Entertainment explained it was due to his behaviour in a social setting.

The authority has received information from Echo and other sources, some of which was not available to the five-year review of Star Casino by Gail Furness SC which was published in December.

She recommended the casino improve staff compliance with regulations and strengthen links with crime-fighting bodies, but found the operator suitable to continue.

Ms Furness will conduct the new inquiry and report back in April.
