Rupert Murdoch's penthouse on sale for $72 million

For a hefty $72 million, Rupert Murdoch's penthouse in One Madison, Manhattan is on the market, the Wall Street Journal reported.

For a hefty $72 million, Rupert Murdoch 's three-story penthouse at One Madison in Manhattan is on the market, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The News Corp (NWSA) executive chairman bought the triplex and a three-bedroom apartment in the same building for $57.25 million in February 2014, WSJ reports. The 6,850-square-foot penthouse, situated on floors 58, 59 and 60, has a circling terrace and views of the Empire State Building, the World Trade Center and the Hudson and East rivers.

The apartment was originally valued at $42.6 million, according to the New York Business Journal, marking a nearly 70 percent increase in the condo's value.

While Murdoch bought the penthouse as a raw space, he hired architect Jose Ramirez to renovate the penthouse, according to the Journal, and has never lived in it.

The 84-year-old tycoon will keep the three-bedroom apartment until he moves to a $25 million townhouse in West Village, the Journal reported.
