Sydney Airport should be able to have flights coming in later at night and increase its aircraft movements, a new report is set to recommend.
The report for the federal and state governments is also expected to argue that a second airport must be urgently developed in Sydney's greater west to meet rising demand, News Limited reported on Wednesday.
It is believed the preferred location is Badgerys Creek.
The Daily Telegraph reported that it had been told by sources close to the report that one of the main recommendations was extending the 6am to 11pm curfew at the city's airport.
It is also set to press for an increase in aircraft movements from an average 70 landings and take-offs per hour to up to 85.
But federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese, whose seat of Grayndler borders Sydney Airport, has already rejected the calls.
"I am yet to receive the final report but this government is absolutely committed to maintaining the existing cap and curfew," he told the newspaper.
