An airstrip servicing a remote Indigenous community on far north Queensland's western Cape York is likely to remain closed until the end of the wet season.
Kowanyama's airport was shut down earlier this week after heavy rainfall from ex-tropical cyclone Oswald damaged the runway.
The township is heavily reliant on the airstrip as roads are cut off during the wet season.
Kowanyama Mayor Robert Holness says the council is seeking funding for the repairs and helicopter drops.

stay closed indefinitely until after the wet season - usually lasts about six months up here until about May, June," he said, "Right now they're trying to work out how they can get supplies and people in."
