Barnes and Noble (BKS) moved higher after its CEO said he sees strong holiday sales for its Nook line.
Greenbrier (GBX) soared on news Carl Icahn has taken a 9.99 percent stake in the company.
Hertz (HTZ) moved lower after its CEO, at an industry conference, discussed the impact Hurricane Sandy had on business.
Xerox (XRX) edged higher despite cutting its fourth-quarter profit target. The company said it will raise its dividend by 35 percent to 23 cents a share as of April 2013 and it will increase it stock buyback by a billion dollars.
Medtronic (MDT) rose after the FDA approved the company's stent graft for aortic transection repair.
Lumber Liquidators (LL) lost ground after Stifel Nicolaus downgraded the stock to "sell" from "hold."
TJX Cos. (TJX) gained ground after better-than-expected quarterly earnings. The retailer also raised its outlook for the year.
Diamond Foods (DMND) rose after the company said it would restate its financial results Wednesday.
Weatherford International (WFT) lost ground after its third-quarter earnings missed expectations, as did its fourth-quarter estimates.
Kar Auction Services (KAR) moved lower after the vehicle auction company ended buyout talks with private equity firm Clayton Dublier & Rice.
Halcyon Resources (HK) gained ground following a flurry of insider buying led by its Chairman.
