Melbourne commuters switch to Myki travel card

Commuters travelling on Melbourne's trams, trains and buses today will need to have a Myki smartcard.

The former Metcard system officially came to an end early this morning.

The last tram to sell tickets departed from Luna Park for the Malvern depot around 2:30am (AEDT).

The new Myki cards have taken over as the sole ticketing system, and users will no longer be able to buy tickets on trams.

Short-term paper tickets will only be available on two bus routes on the Mornington Peninsula.
