    $A lower ahead of ECB announcement

    The Australian dollar is slightly lower in quiet trade as markets await Thursday's European Central Bank (ECB) announcement.

    At 0630 AEST on Wednesday, the local unit was at 105.07 US cents, down from 105.19 cents on Tuesday.

    In overnight trade, it hit a peak of of 105.40 US cents, its highest level in four months.

    The ECB meeting is expected to discuss ways to decrease borrowing costs for debt-laden euro zone nations.
