The Greens consider blocking forest peace deal

The Tasmanian Greens leader has indicated the party room will consider blocking the forest peace deal in Parliament.

The Greens are demanding the government takes forestry off the agenda of a trade mission to Asia.

The Greens Leader Nick McKim has condemned the Deputy Premier's trip to China, to drum up support for Tasmanian woodchips.

He says it makes a mockery of the intergovernmental agreement, and he has not ruled out blocking the IGA in parliament if the trade mission goes ahead.

"Oh well look that's something we'd consider as a team and as a party room," he said.

But the Premier, Lara Giddings, does not consider the trip a threat to the peace deal.

"No definitely not," she said.

Liberal spokesman Peter Gutwein says the mission is a waste of time while the agreement is in place.

"What we have to have to secure those customers is resource security," he said.

He has repeated calls for the deal to be torn up.
