Adobe adds 3D printing tool to Photoshop

Adobe Systems adds 3D printing capabilities to Photoshop software update

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Adobe is adding 3D printing capabilities to its Photoshop software, which will let designers print three-dimensional models and designs — provided they have access to a 3D printer.

Adobe Systems Inc. said Thursday that the 3D printing function is available as an update to Photoshop Creative Cloud, its subscription-based software.

Photoshop users can print 3D designs either locally if they have a 3D printer or using online 3D printing services such as the MakerBot Replicator or Shapeways.

Three-dimensional models and prototypes are used by a broad range of professionals including architects, furniture designers, jewelry makers and animators.

Shares of San Jose, Calif.-based Adobe climbed 16 cents to $61.84 in morning trading after hitting a 52-week high of $61.97 earlier.
