AANT wants tougher penalties for drink-drivers

The Automobile Association of the Northern Territory is calling for anyone caught drink-driving to have their vehicles immediately impounded.

The Automobile Association of the Northern Territory is calling for anyone caught drink-driving to have their vehicles immediately impounded.

AANT general manager Edan Bell says the association is fed-up seeing re-offenders putting the lives of other people at risk.

He says people caught drink-driving should not be given the chance to offend again.

"Clearly, people continue to get out on the road and they are continuing to break the law, and drive while under the influence of alcohol," he said.

"Repeat offenders just should not get that opportunity.

"If you go over 0.08, even on the first instance, we are saying there should be an immediate impoundment of your vehicle."
